Following a period of rapid growth and a series of substantial new orders, West Midlands-based precision engineering firm KG Washford is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Smith as Planned Maintenance Manager.

As well as supplying high quality, precision machined components for the aerospace, automotive and general engineering industries, KG Washford (KGW) is a UK leader in the design and manufacture of hydro-mechanical test rigs. Each rig is custom designed and engineered to simulate the fuel flow systems in engines of civil and military aircraft. By testing fuel system components such as fuel meters, high pressure pumps and solenoid valves under extreme flight conditions, the rigs ensure that these components can be relied upon to maintain full functionality and operate safely in whatever circumstances the aircraft encounters.

With 20 years’ experience in the automotive industry, working largely in the facilities management arena, Paul arrives at KGW with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the implementation of engineering systems. Paul’s main responsibilities within this newly created role will lie in KGW’s Asset Integrity Management programme.

Paul said: “I’m joining KGW during a very exciting period of rapid growth, which is the optimal time to launch our planned maintenance programme. I’m thrilled to be involved in this new venture and I’m really looking forward to spearheading the CARE programme, which will allow us to look after our clients’ test rig assets in order to maintain their safety and reliability in the long-term.”

CARE stands for Controlling Asset Reliability and Efficiency. The programme will deliver unparalleled engineering service across the full operational lifespan of a test rig. Each rig and related equipment under contract will undergo a regular, comprehensive “health check” on its operational capability, thereby improving the rig’s long term effectiveness and reducing unplanned repair costs.

KGW’s Operations Director, Gerard Tilley, commented: “We’re delighted that Paul has joined our team at this very exciting time for the company. Paul’s expertise is set to greatly enhance the KGW offering, allowing us to respond more readily to the growing needs of our clients and ensuring that we continue to deliver the same high level of service. The ongoing service agreement that CARE involves will both secure new orders and safeguard ongoing relationships, helping us in our massive drive forward.”
