As part of its business expansion, Redditch-based precision engineering firm KG Washford (KGW) is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Townley as Technical Authoring Manager.

Along with supplying precision machined components for the aerospace and automotive industries, KGW is a UK leader in the design and manufacture of hydro-mechanical test rigs. Each rig is custom designed to simulate the fuel flow systems of aircraft, allowing clients to check the functionality of their operations. Components such as fuel meters, high pressure pumps and solenoid valves are tested under various extreme conditions, and the rigs ensure that each can be relied upon to maintain functionality and operate safely in whatever circumstances the aircraft encounters.

Matthew joins KGW with a solid engineering background, having honed his technical writing skills at the product compliance specialist, CE Marking Association. He will be using his expertise to head up the authoring of all technical files and documentation that supports each Test Rig, providing clear, concise and unambiguous user information for KGW clients.

Matthew’s abundant experience in CE Marking will also further bolster the KGW offering. CE Marking is the manufacturer’s declaration of product compliance with the essential European requirements, which includes health, safety and environmental protection legislation. It is a mandatory conformity marking for all products placed in the European Economic Area, warranting its free movement within the EFTA and EU single market, and permitting the removal of non-conforming products.

Matthew said: “I’m delighted to join the KGW team during this exciting time, and looking forward to getting involved with the company’s innovative design work, the information behind its machines, and making sure that all technical documentation is up to speed with current legislation and directives.”

Matthew will also be heavily involved in KGW’s new CARE programme, developing the instructions and manuals to accompany each rig. CARE, which stands for Controlling Asset Reliability and Efficiency, will deliver a supreme engineering service across the full operational lifespan of a rig. Each test rig and the related equipment under contract will undergo a regular and thorough “health check” on its operational capabilities, thereby improving long term efficiency and reducing unexpected repair costs.

KGW’s Operations Director, Gerard Tilley, commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome Matthew to the team. His experience in technical writing and CE marking will significantly enrich our offering, ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all documentation, and further enhancing the service we offer our clients. We’ve recently witnessed a series of substantial new orders, which has led to this period of unprecedented expansion, so the accuracy and quality of our documentation has never been more crucial.”
